COVID-19 IN THE NEWS

The Black Hawk County Health Department issued a press release on July 29, 2021,encouraging vaccination and indoor mask use in response to rising positivity rates in the county and nation. “COVID-19 is not going anywhere without increased vaccination in our community,” said Dr. Nafissa Cisse Egbuonye. The press release also noted that Black Hawk County is currently experiencing high COVID-19 transmission. For more information about the current Centers forDisease Control and Prevention (CDC) masking guidance, visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html

A previous NotifyMe edition referenced the serious threats of health misinformation. The change in masking guidance by the CDC is no exception. It’s important to understand that the change is based on multiple scientific studies and cannot be ignored or explained away just because the news and resulting guidance is unpopular. Do your part by learning how to identify and avoid sharing misinformation.
