October is National Children's Health Month. All month long, Black Hawk County Public Health is highlighting services we offer that prevent illness, promote healthy choices, and protect our youngest members of Black Hawk County. Click on the links below to read more about the resources available for you and your family.

The Child and Adolescent Health program promotes the health of children, youth, and adolescents in Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, and Grundy Counties. Families can find assistance through:

• 1^st Five Program- program that partners with medical providers to help families navigate the developmental needs of children ages 0-5.
• Medicaid Care Coordination- provides guidance and resources on the best utilization of Medicaid for eligible children ages 0-21.
• Hawki Program- enrollment into free or low-cost health coverage (Hawki) for children age 0-18.
• Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility- our staff can help families apply for Medicaid for their children age 0-18.

The Public Health Center at Black Hawk County Public Health serves as a resource for families who have yet to find a primary care provider. Services offered by the Public Health Center include:

• Child/Adolescent Well-child Exams
• Immunizations
• Childhood Lead Poison Prevention Screening

The Healthy Homes program partners with Waterloo Community Development to provide a series of in-home assessments to make sure the home is a safe place for children.

Looking for support during your pregnancy? Consider a doula! A doula is a trained, non-medical professional who will provide continuous emotional and physical support to the mother before, during, and after childbirth. Doula services are available for African American and Black Identifying mothers, through a partnership between BHCPH and Allen Women's Health.

• Help navigating healthcare system
• Pre and Post Birth Support
