02122021 Joint Press Release School Vaccine Allocations

COVID-19

Black Hawk County Public Health and Health Systems Partners announce the beginning of vaccination efforts for K-12 teachers and staff in Black Hawk County. Vaccination in area schools will begin the week of February 15th, 2021 and if vaccine allocations hold at projected levels, should be complete by mid-March. Black Hawk County school districts will be notifying their employees with specific information about vaccinations. As we proceed through the tiers of Phase 1B of COVID-19 vaccine distribution, Black Hawk County Public Health, MercyOne, Peoples Community Health Clinic and UnityPoint Health will continue to immunize those individuals 65 and older.

Community immunization efforts proceed in accordance with Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidance and similar announcements will follow as we continue to vaccinate those individuals identified in the tiers of Phase 1B.

Though recent vaccine allocations have increased, and will continue to do so, it is important to note that vaccine allocations remain limited at this time. We ask that those awaiting vaccine availability please remain patient and continue to follow enhanced COVID-19 safety measures, including mask wearing, proper social distancing and good hygiene practices such as hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer. If you experience symptoms consistent with COVID-19, please stay home and contact your primary care provider.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this pandemic. Combating COVID-19 remains a community effort and we appreciate the strength and determination of the residents of Black Hawk County.
