Frequently Asked Questions

Social Distancing & Gatherings

What is Community Spread?

Community Spread: Occurs where individuals have been infected with the virus in an area and cannot specifically identify the source of the infection, or do not know how or where they became infected (e.g. cannot tie the illness to a specific event, like a cruise).

Are there any recommendations to close businesses now?

There are no recommendations to close businesses at this time.  You are still encouraged to maintain practices to reduce the spread of COVID-19, such as social distancing and avoiding crowds, especially in poorly ventilated indoor spaces.  If there is High or Substantial community spread, you should wear a mask when coming into contact with others outside your home.

Does it make any difference whether my activities are indoors or outdoors?

COVID-19 is more likely to spread indoors, especially if the ventilation is poor.  In an indoor setting, everyone should be wearing a mask if there is High or Substantial transmission in the community. Outdoor activities are considered safer, as limited transmission has been seen if social distancing is followed.  Masking is not necessary if you are outdoors, unless you are with large groups of people, are immunocompromised, or if the group you are present with is unvaccinated.
